Huglar was one of the two most powerful mages in the Kingdom of Azeroth and Stormwind City. He was a member of the Council of TirisfalLG 155 during the times of King Llane Wrynn — shortly before and during the start of the First War.

One day, along with another mage named Hugarin, he was found dead by a servant in his room within the royal castle. Medivh and his young apprentice Khadgar were immediately called upon by Anduin Lothar to come to Stormwind City, only to learn that the corpses had been found horribly mutilated and that the room had been mindlessly savaged. As Khadgar tried to sharpen his senses with a simple spell, he was assaulted by foul magic and discovered — thanks to Medivh's explanations — that the two mages had most likely been summoning demons. Lothar later confided in Khadgar that Hugarin and Huglar were not the only members of the Order of Tirisfal to have died from a supposed "accident", and that he was skeptical that three of the most powerful mages in the lands would have died from unlucky circumstances, especially in such a short timeframe.LG 132-140,145,163

Later on, when Khadgar discovered that it was Medivh who was the one responsible for summoning the orcs to Azeroth, he confronted his teacher and accused him of being behind the recent mysterious events and of killing members of the Order — which Medivh confirmed.LG 243
